Leadership
As seniors in the College, the Grade 12 group are expected to take a more formal role in governing the College. According to a democratic structure in which votes are structured to allow the peer group (Grade 11) vote to count more than others (in descending order of importance after the Grade 11 vote - Staff, Grade 12, Grade 10, Grade 9 and Grade 8), a group of house and committee heads is elected in September of the Grade 11 group each year after group camps. Leaders are elected as heads of house or the following committees - Sport, Cultural, Spiritual, Environmental, Social, Community Service, Penreach and Outdoor and serve on the executive council of the College. The two scholars who achieve the highest votes (one boy and one girl) are the joint chairs of this committee (and go forward as full voting members of the Penryn Council), with the scholar who achieves the third highest number of votes going forward as the head of the SRC. Part of the SRC's task is to ensure that the executive council fulfills its role. Scholars may not be head of more than one committee or house and the heads of school may not be the head of a committee.
A further three Grade 12 scholars are elected as members of each committee. Grade 12 boarders also elect heads of each boarding house. This group meets weekly and the Head of Boarding also goes through to sit on the Scholars Executive Council. The Head of Boarding can also be the head of another committee or house. Grade 12 scholars also represent their tutor groups in the SRC. Leaders of the Executive Committee or committee members may not be SRC representatives where this is possible. SRC Representatives are expected to take concerns of their tutor group to this body for discussion and are expected to give feedback following meetings. Representatives are democratically elected at the start of each year and serve for one year. Leadership on the Executive Committee or the SRC may be recognised in the College Awards Policy.
