Culture
Cultivating Creativity and Self-Expression
Dance
For younger scholars, ballet is offered through the Danielle Beer Academy, catering to all levels, from tots to college years. Dance provides a vibrant and energetic space for every scholar to thrive, irrespective of experience.
Music
The Penryn Music Department plays a vital role in nurturing holistic development and creative expression. From Foundation Phase to College, music is woven into the curriculum, starting with basic keyboard and music literacy in the Music Lab—one of the only labs of its kind in South Africa.
Extracurricular activities include choirs, marimba, djembe, and ensemble groups, providing scholars with a chance to collaborate and perform. Weekly Music, Arts, and Drama (MAD) sessions and individual lessons through the Penryn Music Academy empower scholars to refine their talents.
Collaborations with Artreach scholars add depth and diversity to musical projects, ensuring a rich cultural experience.
Visual Arts
The Visual Arts program at Penryn encourages scholars to think critically and express their ideas through a variety of artistic mediums. From Foundation Phase to College, scholars are exposed to skills in photography, sculpture, printmaking, and painting.
Teachers guide students in exploring social and cultural topics, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Regular exhibitions, participation in eisteddfods, and exposure to global art opportunities ensure scholars develop as future-ready creative professionals. Guidance on platforming and selling their work equips aspiring artists with entrepreneurial skills.
Speech and Drama
Penryn’s Speech and Drama program nurtures confidence, communication, and creative storytelling. From Grade 4 to College, scholars participate in weekly drama sessions, focusing on public speaking, debating, and performing arts.
Major drama productions, cultural derbies, and eisteddfods provide platforms for scholars to showcase their talent. Annual events are a highlight of the school calendar, fostering teamwork, discipline, and stage presence. Debating, integrated into the culture, equips scholars with critical thinking and public speaking skills, enabling them to express their ideas confidently and persuasively.
