Your Children Belong to the Lord

People today want to possess. People today want to be in control. For many, property and earthly possessions are incredibly important. Countless people are extremely focused on what they have, and for many, it’s almost an obsession. Land reform is one of the most important words and concepts worldwide today. It’s considered essential to own a house, and cars, bikes, clothes, furniture, and so on are all seen as important possessions. This obsession can sometimes go so far that many people even try to possess other people.

When you observe some parents closely, it often seems as though they view their children as part of their possessions. Children are treated like robots and moved around like pawns on a chessboard. Like obedient little soldiers, children are directed through life, most of the time driven by the wrong values to perform and be the very best. Mom and Dad’s status and reputation are on the line! Children are seen as furniture that needs to be polished to a shine so it looks impressive to anyone watching. Naturally, the “owner” of the possession must then be complimented. After all, what you own often reflects how impressive and admirable you are. For many, it seems their identity is rooted in what they own and can show off.

Every parent needs to realize again that a child is a gift from God. You must understand that your children are entrusted to you by God and that He has appointed you to raise them in His ways. Ultimately, your children are God’s children and belong to Him first and foremost. Parenting is therefore an enormous responsibility, and you will be held accountable by God because you are working with His most precious possessions.

God wants your child’s spiritual potential to be seen and developed. God wants your child to play an important and meaningful role in serving others and investing in their lives. Your child’s life is about far more than performance that boosts a parent’s self-image or makes them feel good about themselves. Life is much deeper and broader than just doing well in tests or performing on the sports field. So follow His guidance and instructions to be a successful parent. Give your children back to the Lord and follow His plan for their lives. He wants your child to bring His Kingdom to earth. He wants your child to make a meaningful and valuable contribution to making the world a better place for everyone.

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.”
– 1 Samuel 1:27–28
